LYNCHBURG, Va.- The Randolph men's soccer team hosted Pfeiffer on Sunday evening in the home opener for the WildCats. The 'Cats sent the large turnout of fans home happy as they defeated the Falcons by the final score of 4-0.
Pfeiffer was coming off a 6-1 loss to ODAC counterpart Hampden-Sydney the previous night and struggled to contain the Randolph offensive attack. The WildCats got on the board quickly in the first two minutes of play as an Evan Blow (Charlottesville, Va./Charlottesville) shot was blocked by Falcon keeper Jacob Hentnik but the rebound fell to Isaac Carney (Charleston, W.V./Homeschool) as he deposited the ball into the back of the net to give the 'Cats an early 1-0 advantage. It was Carney's first career goal as a member of the WildCats.
Blow would score a goal of his own in the 16th minute on an assist from Noah Carney (Charleston, W.V./Homeschool) to make it 2-0 WildCats. Blow scored again in the 22nd minute to make it 3-0 Randolph. Six of the WildCats' shots in the first period were for goals.
Pfieffer never threatened in the Randolph zone as the WildCats held their 3-0 lead at halftime. The second half saw the 'Cats score a quick goal just over a minute in as Ben Gries (Lynchburg, Va./Amherst) found the back of the net to move the score to 4-0.
Randolph out shot Pfieffer 11-4 and 7-0 in shots on goal. The WildCats also led in corner kicks 4-0.
All four WildCat keepers got into the game. The win went to starter Zach Aylor (Vinton, Va./William Byrd).
The WildCats host Greensboro this coming Wednesday. Game time will be at 4:00 p.m.
