LYNCHBURG, Va.- Through at times wet and rainy conditions, the Randolph and Southern Virginia men's soccer played through on Wednesday night at WildCat Stadium. The weather did little to slow the 'Cats down as they defeated the Knights 4-1.
Randolph continues its hot start to the season as it moves to 6-0. SVU drops t0 1-7.
The WildCats dominated from the opening kickoff. Randolph got on the board in ninth minute as Hordy Ndambo (Kissimmee, Fla./Osceola) sent a long pass downfield to Noah Carney (Charleston, W.V./Homeschool) who was able to come down with the ball and shoot it into the back of the net for the 1-0 lead.
Randolph continuously found ways into the offensive zone. The team would register 10 total shots in the first half with seven coming on frame but solid goalkeeping by Southern Virginia's Spencer Young prevented the WildCats from adding to their lead.
It was only a matter of time until the 'Cats could add to their lead. In the 55th minute, Kyle May (Raleigh, N.C./Millbrook) sent a cross over Evan Blow (Charlottesville, Va./Charlottesville) who slid a shot into the backend of the net to make it 2-0 Randolph. Blow scored his second goal of the evening in the 63rd minute.
The Knights did get a score of their own albeit off a shot that glanced off Ndambo and in to put the score at 3-1 in the 67th minute. The WildCats made up for the error later in the 76th minute as Blow assisted Tucker Leverone (Suffolk, Va./Nansemond River) on his goal.
The Randolph defense combined with the wet conditions helped to shut down the SVU attack. The WildCats outshot Southern Virginia 17-1 and 11-0 in shots on goal.
Young finished with seven saves for the Knights. Other than the own goal, Randolph goalie Zach Aylor (Vinton, Va./William Byrd) did not make a save.
Randolph enters conference play this Saturday as it welcomes Bridgewater to WildCat Stadium. Game time will be at 7:00 p.m.
