VIRGINIA BEACH, Va.- The Randolph men's tennis team made the long trip out east on Saturday to face Virginia Wesleyan. The Marlins would defeat the WildCats 8-1.
Randolph dropped both of its doubles matches by the same score. Alex Kulvivat (Severna Park, Md./Severna Park) and Nicolas Alvarado (Santiago, Chile) lost to Mitchell Perry and Felix Bevec 8-4 at first doubles. Colby Cook (Smithfield, Va./Smithfield) and Bhuvan Ambekallu (Karnataka, India/Bethany High) also lost 8-4 to Henry and West and Anthony Wilson at second doubles.
Ambekallu would get payback on Wilson in singles play. The two squared off at #3 and went to a super tiebreaker. Ambekallu was able to defeat Wilson 6-4, 4-6, 10-3.
Alvarado fell in the first set 6-0 to Perry at #1 singles and then was edged out 7-5 in the second set. Bevec won over Kulvivat 6-2, 6-0 at #2. Cook dropped a 6-0, 6-0 decision to West at #4.
Randolph goes to Randolph-Macon next Saturday. The start of the match is at 1:00 p.m.
