GREENSBORO, N.C.- In its penultimate game of the season , the Randolph women's lacrosse teamtraveled down to Guilford on Thursday afternoon. The 'Cats led early in the first half but the host Quakers broke the game open later in the period as they would go on to win 26-8.
Randolph's record now sits at 3-8 overall and 1-6 in the Old Dominion Athletic Conference. Guilford evens its overall and conference record at 2-2.
Guilford scored the first two goals of the game to lead 2-0 at 26:39 but goals from
Sophia Cirone (Stuart, Fla./South Fork) and
Sarah Perry (Rocky Mount, Va./Franklin County) evened the score at 2-all with 25:56 remaining in the half. After GC grabbed the lead back, Perry evened it at 24:17. That was the first of three straight scores for the WIldCats as they went ahead 5-3 with 22:13 remaining in the first half.
Randolph's lead was short lived as the Quakers rattled off 10 straight goals to tie and eventually take the lead taking nearly 13 minutes of game time and leading 13-5 with 7:47 left in the half. The 'Cats were able to tally two goals to cut the score to 13-7 with 7:02 showing on the game clock but Guilford put four goals up to lead 17-7 at the break.
It was all Guilford in the second half as it outscored Randolph 9-1. The WildCats' goal came from
Molly McNair (Wollongong, Australia/Figtree), her third of the season, on an assist from Cirone with just under 13 minutes to play in the game.
Perry scored four goals to lead the WildCats. She also won seven draws and picked up five ground balls. Cirone added three goals and an assist to go with seven draws won, five ground balls, and four caused turnovers.
Alexis Bossi (Falls Church, Va./Justice HS) assisted on Perry's second goal.
The WildCats conclude their season on Saturday at Randolph-Macon. Game time will be at 4:30 p.m.
