LYNCHBURG, Va.- Rain forced the Randolph and Hampden-Sydney men's tennis teams to move indoors for their match on Thursday afternoon. The change in venue had a positive effect on the WildCats as they went on to defeat the Tigers 5-4.
The win, Randolph's third straight, improves the team's overall record to 3-6 and in ODAC play to 2-3. HS-C falls to 1-4 overall and 0-3 in the conference.
The WildCats won three of their matches in singles play. Nico Alvarado (Santiago, Chile/Colegio Olimpo) continued his hot play of late as he defeated Tyler Brice 6-4, 6-2 at first singles. Bhuvan Ambekallu (Karnataka, India/Bethany High) was a 6-1, 6-2 winner over Bryson Alley. Colby Cook (Smithfield, Va./Smithfield) won 8-3 over Andrew Quick. At second singles, Alex Kulvivat (Severna Park, Md./Severna Park) was edged out by Andrew Donevan 7-6, 7-6.
In the doubles portion, Ambekallu and Cook easily handled David Hudson and Patrick Condo 8-0. The deciding point came at first doubles. Alvarado and Kulvivat knocked off Brice and Donevan 6-4 to clinch the match for the WildCats.
Randolph will look to keep its streak going as it host Guilford this Saturday. The match will start at 1:00 p.m.
