Perry Sets Game Records; Reaches 100 Career Goals in WildCats’ 20-15 win Over Sweet Briar

LYNCHBURG, Va.- Senior Sarah Perry (Rocky Mount, Va./Franklin County) accomplished a few milestones as the Randolph women's lacrosse team hosted Sweet Briar on Wednesday night at WildCat Stadium. Perry set a new program record for goals, points, and shots in a game and reached 100 goals for her career as Randolph defeated the Vixens 20-15.

Perry's 13 goals bests the previous record of 11 she set last season. It is currently tied with Averett's Elizabeth Presley for most goals in a game this season. Presley did it twice. Perry's 15 points is also a new Randolph game record.

In the process, Perry is the third Randolph women's lacrosse player to reach 100 career goals. She joins Danielle Haney (118 goals) and Taylor Klevenz (174 goals).

As for the game itself, Randolph took a 1-0 lead at 28:35 on a goal by Sophia Cirone (Stuart, Fla./South Fork). Sweet Briar answered with three straight to go ahead 3-1 with 24:45 remaining in the period. A pair of goals by Perry knotted the contest at 3-all. The two teams would then exchange goals back and forth. Leading 6-5 with 13:02 remaining in the half, a 6-1 run by the 'Cats gave them an 11-7 lead at halftime.

In the second half, a free position goal by Perry 14 seconds in lifted Randolph to a 12-7 lead. Once again the teams would exchange scores with Randolph maintaining its five goal lead, 15-10, with 18:27 left on the clock.

The Vixens started a rally as they ran off four straight goals to get to within one, 15-14, with 10:37 showing on the clock. Perry helped close out Sweet Briar with four goals while Cirone added one to give the WildCats a 20-14 lead with 1:26 remaining in regulation. The Vixens scored with 53 seconds left but it was too late for another comeback as the WildCats took the win.

Randolph outshot Sweet Briar 35-24 with 28 coming on frame for the WildCats and 21 for the Vixens. The WildCats were 9-of-10 on clear attempts with the Vixens 18-of-26. The 'Cats had 27 groundballs to 16 for SBC. The WildCats also had the draw control advantage 23-13 and converted 11 free position shots.

Perry also picked up seven groundballs and caused four turnovers. She won 10 draw controls and was 4-of-7 on free position attempts. Besides Perry's career night, Cirone also had a career effort with five goals. She added five groundballs, four caused turnovers, and nine draw controls. Molly McNair (Cordeaux Heights, New South Wales/Figtree) had a goal and an assist. Alexis Bossi (Falls Church, Va./Justice HS) scored once.

Julyann Marx (Abingdon, Md./Joppatowne HS) finished with three groundballs and three caused turnovers. Cristina Bergenguer-Llongueras (Barcelona, Spain) tallied an assist, three groundballs, and two caused turnovers.

The WildCats return to action nest Wednesday when they travel to Guilford. Game time will be at 7:00 p.m.
