Women’s Lacrosse Falls to Virginia Wesleyan 24-7

LYNCHBURG, Va.- The Randolph women's lacrosse team hosted Virginia Wesleyan on Saturday afternoon at WildCat Stadium. The Marlins won by the score of 24-7.

VWU scored first at 27:18 but the WildCats answered less than two minutes later as Sarah Perry (Rocky Mount, Va./Franklin County) scored on a free position goal. After the Marlins took the lead back 10 seconds later, back-to-back goals by Sophia Cirone (Stuart, Fla./South Fork) and Perry put the 'Cats ahead with 24:31 remaining in the period.

The Marlins rattled off five straight scores to take a lead they would not relinquish at 7-3. Virginia Wesleyan led 17-5 at the break.

VWU outscored Randolph 7-2 in the second half. Perry scored on another free position attempt and Cirone tallied her second score of the day.

VWU led 37-16 in total shots and 32-13 in shots on goal. The Marlins had a slight advantage in ground balls 10-8 and draw controls won 16-15.

Perry finished with four goals, six draw controls won, one groundball, and one caused turnover. Cirone had two goals, one assist, four groundballs, four caused turnovers, and six draw controls won. Olivia Richards (Limeston, Tenn./Pinecrest (N.C.) scored Randolph's other goal. She won three draw controls. Kimberlee Barton (Fredericksburg, Va./Chancellor) stopped eight saves in the cage.

The WildCats travel to Ferrum on Wednesday. Game time will be at 4:00 p.m.
