Women’s Lacrosse Falls to Averett in Home Opener

LYNCHBURG, Va.- The Randolph women's lacrosse team began its season on Saturday afternoon as the WildCats hosted the Cougars of Averett. The Cougars won by the final score of 20-4.

A turnover by Averett led to Randolph scoring the game's first goal by Sarah Perry (Rocky Mount, Va./Franklin County). The WildCat lead was short as the Cougars tied the contest up 10 seconds later.

Averett's lead grew to 6-1 with 10:47 remaining in the first half. The 'Cats were able to close the gap as Courtney Alewine (Bluffton, S.C./May River HS) scored her first collegiate goal on a free position shot to make it a 6-2 contest. That would be close as Randolph would get as the Cougars led 13-2 at halftime. Averett outscored Randolph 7-2 in the second half.

Perry had three goals on the afternoon. She also won five draw controls.  Alewine had one goal and one groundball.

The WildCats return to action on March 2 when they travel to Sweet Briar. Game time will be at 4:00 p.m.
