Women’s Lacrosse Drops 19-8 Decision to Battling Bishops

ROCKY MOUNT, Va.- The Randolph women's lacrosse team had to wait almost two weeks for its next game but finally got back on the field on Friday as the WildCats traveled south for a late week tilt with North Carolina Wesleyan. The Battling Bishops won by the score of 19-8.

The WildCats won the opening draw control and quickly marched downfield with Sarah Perry (Rocky Mount, Va./Franklin County) scoring 21 seconds in to give Randolph the 1-0 lead. NCWC answered back a little over a minute and a half later to tie the game up. Perry put the 'Cats back ahead with her second goal of the afternoon at 27:18.

The Battling Bishops scored six straight times to go ahead 7-2 with 17:09 left in the half. Randolph clawed its way back with back-to-back goals 38 seconds apart to close to within three goals with 13:10 remaining in the period. After North Carolina Wesleyan edged ahead 8-4, two more goals by the WildCats made it an 8-6 contest with 8:46 on the clock. The Battling Bishops ended the first half on a 5-0 run to lead 13-6 at the break.

NCWS kept Randolph in check for most of the second half as it increased its lead to 19-6 with just over eight minutes left to play in the game. Goals by Perry and Sophia Cirone (Stuart, Fla./South Fork) ended the WildCat drought and completed the scoring for the day.

The Battling Bishops held a 28-23 advantage to total shots and 23-15 lead in shots on goal. Both teams committed 15 turnovers. The WildCats led in draw controls won 13-12.

Perry tallied five goals on 10 shots. She also picked up three groundballs, caused two turnovers, and won five draw controls. Cirone scored three times and assisted on two scores. She won four draw controls. Kimberlee Barton (Fredericksburg, Va./Chancellor) started her first career game in goal for the WildCats. She made four saves.

Randolph will face Sweet Briar on March 11. Game time will be at 4:00 p.m.
