WASHINGTON, D.C.- The Randolph women's basketball team returned to the court on Sunday afternoon for the final time in December as they faced Gallaudet on the road in the nation's capital. The WildCats got to a big lead in the first quarter as they went on to a 63-45 victory.
Randolph improves its overall record to 8-2 overall. The Bison drops to 3-6.
The WildCats raced out to a 12-0 lead in the first quarter and led 23-8 at the end of the quarter. In the second quarter, Gallaudet scored a pair of layups to cut the score to 23-12 with 6:40 remaining in the period. Leading 25-16 with 1:36 remaining in the period, the 'Cats used a 7-0 run to close out the quarter to lead 32-16 at halftime.
Randolph outscored the Bison 15-11 in the third quarter and 16-7 in the fourth quarter as Gallaudet never threatened the WildCat lead.
Overall, Randolph was 24-70 from the floor (34.3%) and 9-of30 (30%) from behind the three point arc. Gallaudet shot 15-of-52 (28.8%) but was just 1-11 (9.1%) in three point attempts
Randolph controlled the glass with a 54-46 advantage. The WildCats led 21-10 in second chance points and 19-12 in points off turnovers.
"Great team win today!", said head coach Steve Lanpher. "We came out with the appropriate energy on defense and played very unselfishly. Out depth continues to be an advantage and it was again today."
Kylie Stark (Lynchburg, Va./Brookville) and Teniyah Crenshaw-Patterson (Newport News, Va./Heritage) both scored 15 points each to lead the WildCats. Stark added five rebounds and three steals with Crenshaw-Patterson adding five rebounds. Simone Brown (Norfolk, Va./Lake Taylor) pulled down 12 rebounds to go with seven points. Yanessa Cabrera (Manassas, Va./Stonewall Jackson) dished out eight assists while also coming away with three steals and five rebounds.
"Kyle led us with another all-around game on both ends," noted Lanpher. "Teniyah was a great offensive spark on the bench and Simone had seven points and 12 rebounds."
Randolph returns to action on January 1 when it hosts Covenant at Giles Gymnasium. Game time will be at 1:00 p.m.
