Women’s Basketball to Retire Tara Carleton Weaver's Jersey November 7

LYNCHBURG, Va.- On Sunday, November 7 the Randolph women's basketball team will host Methodist at 4:00 pm at Giles Gymnasium. It is also the WildCats' Alum Day as they will welcome several former players back to campus. Randolph will also retire the jersey of Tara Carleton Weaver from the class of 2000.

Weaver is the most decorated player in the history of the Randolph women's basketball program. Competing as Randolph-Macon Women's College, Weaver is the program's all-time leading scorer with 2,167 points averaging 22.3 points per contest. She is one of two in WildCat history with over 1,000 rebounds. She made 551 free throws, came away 253 steals, and blocked 83 shots.

Weaver made ODAC All-Conference teams four times and is the only Randolph player to date to make it all four times. She was the 1997 ODAC Rookie of the Year and the 1999 ODAC Player of the Year. She was a three-time Honorable Mention All-American and once a First Team All-American. Weaver was also Virginia SID All-State in 1997-98 and twice named Virginia SID All-State Player of the Year twice. In addition, she earned the 2000 Marjorie Berkley Award by the ODAC.

Prior to her graduation from RMWC, Weaver at the time was the only Division III player to make it past the first cut with the Miami Sol of the WNBA. Following graduation, Weaver enrolled in post-graduate studies at the University of Leicester in Leicester, England and continued to play basketball on the university team.  After earning her Master of Arts degree, Tara pursued a professional basketball career by playing center for the London Amazons in the United Kingdom.

Weaver has been married to her husband Barry since 2005 and the couple has four children, Eamon, London, Nolan, and Roslyn. She and her family currently reside in King George, Va. Over the past seven years she has organized multiple homeschool programs and activities in her local community, and when time has permitted, coached youth basketball teams.
