Box Score WILLIAMSBURG, Va.- The Randolph women's basketball team played its first road game of the season on Sunday as the WildCats traveled to Division I William & Mary. The Tribe would defeat the 'Cats by the score of 83-31.
Kylie Stark (Lynchburg Va./Brookville) scored the game's first basket to give Randolph its first and only lead of the game. The Tribe would then go on a 16-0 run to break away and lead 16-2 with 3:45 to play in the first quarter. Teniyah Crenshaw-Patterson's (Newport News, Va./Heritage) layup with 2:32 on the clock broke Randolph's scoring drought and was part of a 6-0 run by the WildCats to end the quarter as Randolph only trailed 16-8.
A three-point basket by the Tribe to start the second quarter restored William and Mary's lead back to double digits at 19-8. Crenshaw-Patterson's layup with nine minutes on the clock made it 19-10. The Tribe would go on a 19-8 run for the remainder of the quarter to lead 38-16 at halftime.
The Tribe maintained its lead over Randolph in the third quarter. W&M outscored the WildCats 31-5 in the fourth quarter to further pull away from the 'Cats.
Stark and Crenshaw-Patterson both scored seven points for the WildCats with Stark adding five rebounds and two assists. Nadia West (Monroe, Va./Amherst County) grabbed five rebounds.
"It wasn't the outcome we wanted but I'm proud of our effort overall, said head coach Steve Lanpher. "I thought for two and a half quarters we competed. We know going in that their length & athleticism would be a factor and I thought their pressure sped us up and little too much causing turnovers & missed shots. It was a great learning experience for us and should help us moving forward as a team."
The WildCats return to Giles Gymnasium on Wednesday as they host Eastern Mennonites in their ODAC opener. Game time will be at 5:00 p.m.
