LYNCHBURG, Va.- The Randolph volleyball team hosted Roanoke on Friday evening at Giles Gymnasium in the WildCats' home finale. The Maroons defeated the 'Cats by the score of 3-0 (25-20, 25-19, 25-15).
The WildCats got out to a 6-3 lead in the first set. Roanoke came back to wrestle it away but Randolph reclaimed the lead as it went ahead 12-10. The WildCat lead was 14-11 before the Maroons went on a 6-0 run to go up 17-14. The WildCats closed to one point at 17-16 and then tied the set at 20-20. RC ended the set on a 5-0 run to win 25-20.
Randolph scored the first point of the second set on a service error by the Maroons. Roanoke then put up four straight points to lead 4-1. The WildCats tied at 6-6 and only trailed by one point 9-8. It would as close as they would get as Roanoke went on an 8-0 run to go up 17-8 and held a 10-point lead at 24-14. Randolph did inch its way back with consecutive kills by Melody Washington (Fredericksburg, Va./Chancellor), Kinley Spinks (Covington, Va./Covington), and Tomi-Lauren McGinnis (Ringgold, Va./Dan River) followed by an attack error on the Maroons to get the score to 24-19. RC got the last points it needed, however, on a kill by Ryanna Clark to claim the set 25-19.
The WildCats led 3-0 in the third set until Roanoke ripped off five straight points to go up 5-3. Randolph trailed 8-7 but the Maroons stayed out in front for remainder of the set. The 'Cats looked to fight their way back in as they got to 21-15 but a 4-0 run by the Maroons gave the visitors a 25-15 set win.
Logan Warren (Chesterfield, Va./Steward School) led the WildCats with seven kills and four total blocks. Washington and Madison Daniels (Warrenton, Va./Liberty) both had seven digs each. Washington also led in assists with nine. Kenleigh Gunter (Troutville, Va./Lord Botetourt) added six digs.
Randolph concludes its season with a final record of 7-14 overall and 2-9 in the Old Dominion Athletic Conference.
