FERRUM, Va.- The Randolph volleyball team returned to the court on Wednesday as the WildCats traveled to Ferrum for an ODAC match. The Panthers would defeat the WildCats 3-0 (21-25, 18-25, 15-25).
In the first set, the Panthers had leads to 6-2 and 8-4. Randolph rallied to take an 11-10 lead until FC went on a 5-1 run to go up 15-12. The WildCats hung with the Panthers for the remainder of the set and were able to close to within two points at 23-21. Ferrum, however, picked up the last two points to win the frame 25-21.
Trailing by only three points, 9-6, in the second set, the Panthers used an 11-2 run to jump ahead 20-8. The WildCats were able to close some of the gap to get to 24-18 but it was not enough as Ferrum won the frame 25-18.
The Panthers had a lead of 8-3 in the third set. Randolph closed to within three points at 13-10 but Ferrum stayed out ahead for the remained of the stanza to win the set 25-15.
Nikki Hurt (Cartersville, Va./Cumberland) led the 'Cats with nine kills. Melody Washington (Fredericksburg, Va./Chancellor) and Kenleigh Gunter (Troutville, Va./Lord Botetourt) both had seven digs each. Gunter also had two service aces.
Randolph travels to Greensboro, N.C. on Saturday for an ODAC tri-match. The WildCats face Eastern Mennonite at 12:00 p.m. followed by Bridgewater at 2:00 p.m.
