FAYETTEVILLE, N.C.- The Randolph men's lacrosse team traveled to Methodist University to face the Monarchs on Saturday. Methodist won by the final score of 14-4.
The game was scoreless until 8:25 of the first quarter when the Monarchs got on the scoreboard. Methodist would go on to lead 3-0 with 7:15 remaining. Randolph tallied its first goal as Sean Landis (Williamsburg, Va./Lafayette) scored unassisted at 5:33. Goals would change hands with the WildCats trailing 4-2 with 1:27 showing on the clock in the quarters. Methodist tacked on one more goal to lead 5-2 at the end of the period.
After Methodist scored the first goal of the second quarter, the 'Cats closed to 6-3 on Jacob Ernst's (Springfield, Va./Springfield) first collegiate goal with under 10 minutes remaining in the stanza. The Monarchs broke away with a 5-0 run and led 11-3 at halftime.
The third quarter saw Methodist score three times to up its lead to 14-3. Randolph had the only goal of the fourth quarter as Landis scored his second of the day.
Landis led the 'Cats with two goals. Ernst and Gage Tutko (Manassas, Va./Osbourn) had Randolph's other goals. Evan Pausic (Saluda, Va./Christchurch) picked up four groundballs.
The WildCats begin conference play on Wednesday as they face Roanoke on the road. Game time will be at 4:00 p.m.
