Softball Swept by Greensboro in Home Opener

LYNCHBURG, Va.- The Randolph softball team hosted Greensboro in its home opener on Saturday afternoon. The results did not turn out as the WildCats had hoped as they lost the opener 11-0 in five innings and the second game 5-0.

Randolph managed four hits in the first game. Delaney Nuckols (Rockville, Va./Patrick Henry) had two of those four hits which included a double. Elyssa Francis (Newport News, Va./Woodside) was 1-for-3 and stole two bases.

The WildCats had five hits in the second game. Alyssa Swords (Prince George, Va./Prince George) batted 2-for-3 with a double. Blair Epperson (Nathalie, Va./William Campbell) was 1-for-3 with a stolen base.

Braelyn Cooper (Amherst, Va./Amherst County) got the start in the circle for the 'Cats. She gave up two runs (one earned) on four hits. She walked two and struck out three. Danielle Shannon (Greenville, Va./Riverheads) went three innings and surrendered three runs on five hits, walling one, and striking out two. Lindsey Kirkland (Lynchburg, Va./Jefferson Forest) pitched one inning and walked one.

Randolph will look to bounce back next Saturday when it travels to Winston-Salem, N.C. to play in the Triangle Classic hosted by William Peace. The WildCats face Arcadia at 12:00 followed by Christopher Newport at 2:30 p.m.
