Game Recap: Women's Basketball |

WildCat Women Clipped By Eagles

BRIDGEWATER, Va.- The Randolph women's basketball team travelled to Bridgewater for a Saturday afternoon contest with the Eagles. BC would win by the final score of 62-43.

The WildCats trailed 10-7 just past the midway point of the first quarter. Bridgewater used an 8-4 run to pull ahead 18-11 with 2:30 to play in the period. Both teams would go cold as they were a combined 0-10 from the field for the remainder of the quarter.

The Eagles rattled off 14 straight points to begin the second quarter and surged ahead 32-11 at 5:12. Randolph was able to cut the lead to 16, 37-12, at the break.

Bridgewater stayed out in front in the third quarter. The WildCats did use a 5-2 run to get the score to 45-32 with 4:22 left in the quarter. Randolph made another small run in the fourth quarter as it began with a 6-1 spurt to close to within 11 points, 51-40, at 3:53. Bridgewater's 11-3 run to close out the game ended any hopes for a WildCat comeback.

Randolph edged out Bridgewater in shooting percentage 29.1-28.6%. The WildCats were able to outscore the Eagles in points off turnovers 21-17 and in points in the paint 22-20.

"Loved our effort and competiveness today against a very good Bridgewater squad," said head coach Steve Lanpher after the game. "I though defensively we followed the game plan and made them take difficult shots. Unfortunately, we allowed them too many second opportunities."

Yanessa Cabrera (Manassas, Va./Stonewall Jackson) scored a team-best 11 points and dished out five assists. Cameron O'Neil (Gloucester, Va./Gloucester) added seven points. Alyssa Morroni (Springfield, Va./West Springfield) put up six points and grabbed five rebounds.

Randolph hosts Bluefield State this Wednesday at the RAD. Game time will be at 7:00 p.m.
