Volleyball Sweeps on Second Day of Maroon Classic

SALEM, Va.- The Randolph volleyball team completed the second day of competition at the Maroon Classic hosted by Roanoke College. The WildCats picked up a pair of 3-1 victories on the day with wins over North Caroline Wesleyan and Mary Baldwin.

The Wildcats' record now stands at 4-2 overall. It is Randolph's best start through six matches since 2014.

Randolph 3 North Carolina Wesleyan 1

The Bishops claimed the opening set 25-23 but the 'Cats came back to win the next three frames 25-19, 25-20, 25-19. Mackenzie Ambrose (Floyd, Va./Floyd County) led in kills with 15 with Tomi-Lauren McGinnis (Ringgold,Va./Dan River) adding 11 and Logan Warren (Chesterfield, Va./Steward School) 10. Sam Verhaagen (Virginia Beach, Va./Norfolk Christian) had a team-high 24 digs. Ambrose tallied 18 and Taylor Webb (Nassawadox, Va./Northampton) 12. Webb accumulated 42 assists. The WildCats had a total of 13 service aces with Ambrose and Kennedy Webb ((Nassawadox, Va./Northampton) both notching three each and Taylor Webb two.

Randolph 3 Mary Baldwin 1

The WildCats took the first two sets with scores of 25-23 and 25-17. The Fighting Squirrels claimed the third set 25-22 but Randolph was able to finish off Mary Baldwin with a 25-15 win in the fourth and final set.

Ambrose led the way again in kills with 17 with McGinnis tacking 13 and Lauren Morgan (Bedford, Va./Liberty) nine. McGinnis also notched three service aces. Warren totaled five blocks while Audrey Antesberger (Scottsville, Va./St. Anne's Belfield) and Taja Hunley (Dalzell, S.C./Thomas Sumter Academy) both had four each. Verhaagen accumulated 18 digs with Ambrose (17) and McGinnis (14) following her. Taylor Webb finished with 45 assists.

Taylor Webb was named to the All-Tournament Team. In three matches, she had 136 assists, 38 digs, 11 kills, and four service aces.

Randolph travels to Emory on Wednesday for an ODAC match with Emory and Henry. Start time is at 7:00 p.m.
