LYNCHBURG, Va.- The Randolph men's soccer team hosted Piedmont International on Wednesday evening in their final non-conference game of the season. The WildCats kept their winning streak going with a 4-1 victory over the Bruins.
The win, the 'Cats fifth in a row, improves their record to 5-3-1. Piedmont drops to 4-2-1.
Gabe Krueger (Jacksonville, N.C./White Oak) got it started for the WildCats as he got on the scoreboard at 12:43 to put the home team ahead 1-0. Randolph continued to attack away in the Bruin zone. Kyle Wade (Williamsburg, Va./Jamestown) scored at 36:40 and he was followed by Wes Boor (Lovingston, Va./Nelson County) at 42:24 to give Randolph a 3-0 halftime lead.
In the second half, the WildCats held their three-goal advantage for the majority of the frame as the Bruins could not sustain a consistent attack. Randolph tallied its fourth goal of the night in the 83rd minute as Garrett Toms (Forest, Va./Jefferson Forest) got a shot into the back of the net. The Bruins got on the board at 88:46 on a goal by Francisco Tapia.
Erick Cortez-Martinez (Winston-Salem, N.C./North Forsyth) played 61:25 in the net and made four saves. Zach Aylor (Vinton, Va./William Byrd) had one save in 17:08 and Cody Toews (Bumpass, Va./Louisa County) did not record a save in 11:27.
Randolph held a 12-9 advantage in total shots and 10-6 in shots on goal. The WildCat held a 6-5 edge in corner kicks.
The WildCats begin Old Dominion Athletic Conference play this Saturday as they take on Shenandoah on WildCat Weekend. Game time is scheduled for 7:30 p.m.
