WildCats Defeat Builders 71-56

LYNCHBURG, Va.- The Randolph men's basketball team hosted Apprentice in the WildCats' final home game of 2019 on Wednesday evening. The WildCats trailed at halftime but used a big second half to overtake the Builders and come away with a 71-56 victory.

Randolph led 11-7 early on in the first half but Apprentice went on a 15-4 run to go ahead 22-15 with 8:55 remaining. The lead went up to nine points, 31-22, with 5:15 showing on the game clock. The WildCats cut their deficit to six points thanks to a three-point basket by CJ Loving (Madison Heights, Va./Amherst County) and a layup by Brian Smith (Dumfries, Va./C.D. Hylton) made it a four-point game, 31-27, at the break.

The WildCats used a 19-8 run to begin the second half and led 50-40 at the 11:40 mark. The Builders tried to respond as they got to within seven points, 54-47, with 6:42 remaining to play in the contest. That would be as close as Apprentice could get as Randolph's 17-9 run to close out the game further distanced itself from the Builders on the way to victory.

The teams were even in rebounds at 44. The WildCats led in nearly every other statistical category. Points off turnovers was 17-9 while points in the paint were 34-30. The 'Cats received 22 points from the bench compared to just five for the Builders.

Justin Dula (Taylorsville, N.C./Alexander Central) and Evan Makle (Dumfries, Va./Christ Chapel Academy) both scored 13 points to lead Randolph's offensive effort. Dula pulled down a team-best 14 rebounds. Smith added 11 points, seven rebounds, four assists, three steals, and two blocked shots. Loving finished with nine points and eight rebounds.
