HAMPDEN-SYDNEY, Va.- In a rematch of the regular season finale played just five days ago, the Randolph men's soccer team once again faced Hampden-Sydney, this time in the ODAC quarterfinals. The Tigers scored two quick goals in the first half and made it hold up as they went on to win 2-0.
The Tiger goals were scored just over two minutes apart. Boyce Purdie gave H-SC the lead on a goal off a corner kick at 14:41. The home team struck again at 17:00 on a goal by Jacob Mann and suddenly the Tigers were ahead 2-0.
Randolph outshot Hampden-Sydney 8-5 in the second half and landed seven on goal but Tiger goalkeeper Ian Conner was there to deny each opportunity. He would finish with eight saves on the day.
Overall, Hampden-Sydney had just a 14-12 edge in total shots and 9-8 in shots on frame. Corner kicks were in Randolph's favor 6-5.
Both teams were called for 15 fouls. The WildCats, however, were assessed three yellow cards.
In his final game as a WildCat, Randolph keeper Erick Cortez-Martinez (Winston-Salem, N.C./North Forsyth) came up with seven saves.
Randolph ends its season with a final record of 10-8-1. The Tigers advance to the semifinals next weekend.
