Women’s Soccer Plays to 3-3 Tie With Guilford in Season Finale

LYNCHBURG,Va.- The Randolph women's soccer team wrapped up its 2019 season on Saturday afternoon against Guilford at WildCat Stadium. In a wild game featuring six goals and just as many yellow cards, the two teams played to a 3-3 draw after the completion of two overtime periods.

For the majority of the first half, the two teams were deadlocked at 0-0 and it looked like it would stay that way going into the break. In the 40th minute, however, Marisa Santacroce (Chesapeake, Va./Hickory) sent a pass in from a free kick to Sara Bane (Blue Ridge, Va./Lord Botetourt) who tapped the ball over Quaker goalkeeper Morgan Malikowski and in to put Randolph ahead 1-0.

In the second half, the WildCat lead lasted just over two minute as Guilford tied it up on a goal by Sarah Hall. The Quaker advantage pushed ahead to 2-1 over six minutes later on a score by Karol Jaimes.

The WildCats would get the equalizer but not in the way they expected. Jenna Rozenboom (Vinton, Va./William Byrd) chased the ball down towards Guilford keeper Brianna Garcia. Garcia tried to clear but the ball deflected off a Quaker defender and in towards the empty net for the goal as the miscue tied the contest at 2-2.

Randolph had life and looked to take the lead again. A yellow card in the 71st minute granted Santacroce a free kick opportunity outside of the box. Santacroce was able to blast a shot into the upper right corner of the net and in to give the WildCats a 3-2 lead.

Guilford fought back as James netted her second score of the day in the 82nd minute. Both teams had a shot on goal in the final seven and a half minutes of regulation but were denied as the game headed to an extra period.

Only shot on goal was made, by Guilford, in the first overtime as a second overtime was needed. Both teams had a shot on frame in the second overtime period but it was for naught as the game ended in a draw.

Guilford led in total shots 19-14 and in shots on goal 10-8. Both teams had three corner kicks each.

Deaven Milam (Chesapeake, Va./Western Branch) had seven saves in the net. Malikowski had two saves with Garcia finishing with three.

Bane ends the season with 15 goals scored. It is tied for the third-most in a season with Lyndsey Pelham who did it in 2002.

Prior to the start of the game, the WildCats honored seniors Hannah Overstreet (Bedford, Va./Liberty) and Ashley Napolitano (Hillsborough, N.C./Cedar Ridge) along with Nicole Taulton (Fairplay, Md./Williamsport) and Mikki Salerno (Huddleston, Va./E.C. Glass) who are both graduating early. Randolph finishes with a final record of 6-8-3 overall and 2-7-1 in the ODAC. Guilford is 6-9-3 and 2-6-2 in the conference.
