Box Score BRIDGEWATER, Va. – The Randolph College volleyball team fell to host and Old Dominion Athletic Conference (ODAC) rival Bridgewater College in straight sets (15-25, 12-25, 19-25) on Saturday afternoon in Nininger Hall.
Despite holding a small lead in the opening set, the WildCats soon trailed the Eagles, 12-8. Bridgewater increased its margin further off of a 6-1 run for an 18-9 advantage but the WildCats were able to trim the deficit to 18-14. Still it would not be enough as the Eagles landed point after point to take the first set, 25-15.
Bridgewater grabbed a slim 5-4 lead in the second set but soon stormed ahead to a 21-8 margin. Randolph could only trim the deficit to 24-12 before the Eagles landed the final point to clinch the second set win.
The final frame saw the WildCats take control of the score, pushing a 7-5 edge over the Eagles. Bridgewater was able to slice the deficit to 7-all before 6-3 burst extended their lead to 13-10. Randolph responded to rope the score to 13-12 but Bridgewater quickly shook off the WildCats, storming ahead to a 20-12 advantage. Despite Randolph's best efforts, the Eagles ultimately took the set, 25-18, and secure the 3-0 sweep.
The WildCats fall to 4-11, 1-5 ODAC and will take a break from conference play when they return home on Thursday, Oct. 5 to host Ferrum College in the RAD Center.
