Big First Half Pushes E&H Past WildCats
EMORY, VA – Emory & Henry College scored 25 points in the first and second periods, as the hosts defeated the Randolph College women's basketball team on Saturday, 94-57 , in Old Dominion Athletic Conference (ODAC) action.
The Wasps started the game very quickly, going on a 15-2 run over the first four and a half minutes, as Rebecca Harvey scored the only basket for the WIldCats. Hope Randolph ended the run with a basket of her own, before the two teams began to trade baskets. Korin Harris and Jacqueline Hockman combined during that run, before the Wasps pushed their advantage back to 14.
Taylor Samuels and Hockman then hit jumpers late in the first period, but E&H responded to take a 25-12 lead into the second. That short momentum at the end, carried over into a run to start the second. Emory & Henry score 12 of the first 16, as Hope Randolph hit two free throws and Alexis Calloway hit a jumper during.
E&H went on another run to end the period. The Wasps hit eight free throws to go into the half with a 50-23 advantage.
Following two Tamara Brewster makes from the charity stripe, the 'Cats went on a small run to cut the deficit. Hockman and Harris combined for six points in one minute. But Emory & Henry scored eight of the next 10, including five free throws by Taylor Blevins. The teams then exchanged points over the remainder of the period, including two points by Harvey and Brie Holdren. But the Wasps would hold onto a 68-37 lead at the end of the third.
The WildCats started the fourth strongly. Harris began it with a tough layup, which was answered on the other end. However, Harris, Hockman, and Hope Randolph scored eight of the next nine to cut the deficit. Blevins and Camille Gallagher exchanged buckets, before the Wasps went on another run. E&H carried the momentum to the end of the game for the 94-57 win.
Hope Randolph, Hockman, and Harris all finished in double-figures. Hope Randolph tallied 14, while Harris and Hockman each chipped in 10. Blevins led all scorers in the game with 19. Chloe Harris (17), Brewster (13), and Karina Farr (10) were the other Wasps (15-5 overall, 9-3 ODAC) in double-digits.
Randolph (4-17, 2-10) returns home on Tuesday. The WildCats take on Roanoke College (10-10, 6-6) at 7 p.m.
