Women's Basketball falls to the Generals

LYNCHBURG, VA – The Randolph College women's basketball team dropped an Old Dominion Athletic Conference (ODAC) matchup to Washington and Lee University on Saturday, 78-46.

W&L started out quickly, getting an early 6-2 lead, with Korin Harris the lone WildCat scorer.  Rebecca Harvey hit three free throws around an Emma Redding layup, putting the visitors lead at three.   Washington and Lee made two baskets, before Harris finished her second layup of the game, putting the score at 11-7 in favor of the visitors.  Shortly after, Abigail Bullins faked a hand-off, and hit a step back three to bring the 'Cats within one.  However, the Generals went on a 7-0 run to close off the period with an 18-10 lead.

Washington and Lee continued its run to start the second, pushing the lead to 21-10.  The sides then traded baskets with Harris, Harvey, and Taylor Samuels scoring for the WildCats and cutting the deficit to seven.  However, the Generals scored six in-a-row, before Harvey stopped the run with a layup.  W&L followed it with a late 10-6 run to go into the half with a 41-24 lead.

The two teams came out of the intermission and began to answer each other.  Neither team could get much separation in the period.  Bullins followed a Washington and Lee basket with a layup.  It was answered on the other end by Shelbi Hendricks.  Then Samuels and Harvey combined for a 6-2 run, once again bringing down the deficit.  After two baskets by the Generals, Harvey converted another layup.  Following a Kelly Ailyn jumper, Bullins knocked down two free throws.  Four points were scored by both teams throughout the remainder of the period, as Lauren Moore hit two jump shots for the WildCats.  Things dried up in the fourth period, as Randolph struggled to score.  The Generals extended their lead and left with the victory.

Harvey led the WildCats with 13 points, while Harris added eight points and six rebounds.  Kelly posted a game-high 23 points for the Generals (9-6 overall, 4-2 ODAC).  Jackie Clifford and Paige Corvino also finished in double-figures, with 17 and 10 respectively.

Randoloph (2-13, 0-6) will start a two-game road trip next Wednesday.  The 'Cats head to Hollins University (3-10, 0-6), with the game set to begin at 7 p.m.
