WildCats Fall Short Across Town

LYNCHBURG, VA – The Randolph College women's basketball team outscored Lynchburg College in the fourth quarter, but it was not enough as the WildCats fell 67-50 in Old Dominion Athletic Conference (ODAC) play on Wednesday.

The 'Cats started the game off very strong, as Abigail Bullins continued her hot shooting from Saturday, and hit a three at 8:45 in the first to take a 3-1 lead.  The teams then traded points, with Korin Harris scoring four for the WildCats as the lead remained at two.  The Hornets went on a run, before Rebecca Harvey answered with a bucket bringing the score to 12-9 in favor of Lynchburg.

LC then answered with five straight before Bullins hit her second three of the game.  Molly Shephard hit a free throw before the end of the period, giving Lynchburg the 18-12 lead going into the second.  During that period, the hosts outscored the visitors 18-7 despite another shot from behind the arc by Bullins, as the Hornets went into the half with a 36-19 advantage.

Harris started the third very strong for the WildCats, scoring around the basket for six early points.  However, they were answered on the other end by the Hornets as the lead was extended.  The 'Cats fought back the rest of the period as Taylor Samuels scored four points, and Bullins, Jacqueline Hockman, and Lauren Moore each added two of their own, but the score would be 58-35 at the end of the third.

Randolph started the fourth off strong as Harvey and Harris combined for five points.  After a stretch of good defensive play on both sides, the 'Cats scored 10 in the last few minutes.  Moore and Darian Thornton tallied three apiece, while Camille Gallagher and Bullins each hit jumpers. However it was not enough as the hosts held on for the victory.

Bullins led Randolph with 13 points and moved into 10th-place on the all-time list with 1,013 points.  Harris added 12 for the WildCats.  Chaney Forbush led the Hornets (12-2 overall, 5-0 ODAC) with a double-double of 15 points and 10 rebounds.

Randolph (2-12, 0-5) returns home on Saturday for the second game of doubleheader.  The 'Cats take on Washington and Lee University (7-6, 2-2) at 4:30 p.m.
