WildCats Fall in both Sunday Matches

DANVILLE, VA – The Randolph College volleyball team dropped its two matches on Sunday, giving the 'Cats a 2-2 record at the season opening 21st Annual Cougar Classic.  The WildCats fell to William Peace University, 3-0, with scores of 18-25, 14-25, and 21-25.  The nightcap against Greensboro College ended 19-25, 25-17, 24-26, and 12-25, for the 3-1 defeat.

Brooks Gillerlain held the setting responsibilities for the WildCats again on Sunday, this time notching 14 assists in the first match against WPU.  She also showed off her defensive prowess, recording 11 digs.  Katie Brown added another solid defensive display, notching a team-high 12 digs in the match.  Alex Mariona led the way with eight kills.

Gillerlain provided another solid 10-10 effort, assisting on 18 kills and registering ten digs.  Elisabeth Price added a team-high 13 digs during the four-set match.  Mariona led the WildCats with eight kills, and Autumn Troxell added seven in the loss.

"We finally found some consistency during the Greensboro game but struggled to finish the game," said head coach Kara Matthews.  "We are still working with different lineups to see what fits best for our team."

Randolph (2-2 overall) hosts its first home game on Tuesday.  The WildCats take on USA South Conference member Ferrum College (0-1) at 7 p.m.
