Randolph Volleyball falls at Home to Generals
LYNCHBURG, VA – The Randolph College volleyball team hosted its first Old Dominion Athletic Conference (ODAC) game of the year, and only its second home game all season, falling to Washington and Lee University in three sets, 10-25, 13-25, and 15-25 on Friday.
The Generals jumped out to a quick lead thanks to the team hitting at a .565 clip as a team in the first set. However, the WildCats responded well at the beginning of the second, as they tied the game early on thanks to kills by Alex Mariona, with both assists coming from Brooks Gillerlain. The 'Cats took the lead on the next play thanks to an ace by Noelle Wojciechowski, but Generals went on a well-timed run to take a six-point lead. W&L continued to keep the pressure on the WildCats and expanded the lead to 12, which they would win the set.
Randolph started off the third set the same way as the second: responding to Washington and Lee and taking a narrow lead. Gillerlain faked a set and earned a kill to earn a point. Then the 'Cats went up two shortly after, taking advantage of General errors. The WildCats kept the advantage until 10-8 and forced a tie as late as 11-11, but W&L went on another run to expand the lead and seal the victory over the WildCats.
Elena West had a game-high 35 assists for the Generals (7-4 overall, 2-0 ODAC). Mackenzie Shand and Anna Lausberg each had a game-high 11 kills for W&L. Gillerlain led the WildCats with nine assists and eight digs.
Randolph (2-9, 0-2) has a quick turnaround, hosting another ODAC foe on Saturday. The Shenandoah Hornets travel to the RAD Center for a 1 p.m. start time.
