The first set found the Knights with an early 4-1 lead, but the 'Cats came right back to tie it at five apiece. After SVU took a two-point advantage, Randolph answered with five of the next eight. Rebecca Lesnak killed two passes from Brooks Gillerlain and Noelle Wojciechowski had one during that streak. The teams went back and forth until Randolph found themselves in a four-point deficit. With Price serving, the WildCats came back and took the lead at 21-20. SVU scored four of the next five, but Randolph closed out the set with four straight. Troxell had a kill, before Wojciechowski notched one. Then Troxell served an ace for the win.
Randolph jumped out to a 7-1 lead to start the second, as Price added an ace, and Jasmine Tapscott slammed home a kill. The Knights fought back and cut the lead down once more, but the 'Cats responded again, pushing the lead to three. Every time in the set that Southern Virginia made a run, the WildCats answered, pushing the lead further. Finally, with Randolph winning at 24-19, Brittany Nicholson killed a pass from Price to take the second set.
The third proved to be similar to the latter stages of the first. Both sides found themselves tied several times early on in the game. Troxell and Wojciechowski combined for six kills during the early parts as the two teams were tied at 12. The Knights then went on a run to take a 20-14 lead, that would hold at six. At 21-15, Nicholson began serving for the WildCats, and Randolph tied the score at 21, which included two more kills by Troxell. After a SVU point, Troxell and Lesnak each recorded kills for a narrow-WildCat lead. The teams traded points until 25 all, and Southern Virginia won the set with two kills.
The Knights once again took a 4-1 lead to start the fourth, and the WildCats would tie it, just as in the first. Troxell added two more kills during that time. While the score remained close throughout the early goings of the set, Randolph went on a well-timed run to extend the lead. Once again, Troxell was at the heart of it, registering four kills. After a late Knight push, Troxell came in off the bench and closed out the match with her 19th.
Along with the 19 kills, Troxell also picked up a career-high 12 digs. Price's total, a career-high as well, is tied for sixth-best in program history. Gillerlain picked up another double-double with 16 assists and 11 digs. Andrea Mewhinney also recorded double-figures in assists, with 12.
The defensive stats were staggering in the match, as both teams had 91 digs. Valerie Baety had 12 digs and a game-high 45 assists for the Knights (4-14 overall).
Randolph (3-17) goes back on the road for a tri-match this Saturday. The WildCats will play the hosts Methodist University at 4 p.m. and then take on Wesley College at 6 p.m.
