Bridgewater Earns ODAC Women's Basketball Win Despite Balanced Randolph Scoring

Box Score

BRIDGEWATER, Va. -- Seven WildCats scored at least five points today, but the balanced effort was not enough as Bridgewater held off Randolph in women's basketball action this afternoon.

The lead changed hands nine times and the score was tied nine times, as well, in today's thriller, 69-62.

A very competitive contest, the teams swapped leads six times in the first eight minutes before Bridgewater strung together a run to take an early 15-8 advantage.

That seven point cushion would disappear quickly however, as Randolph reeled off eight straight points courtesy of contributions from senior Jensen Hoover, junior Abigail Bullins and first-year Alexis Calloway.

Six straight points from the Eagles put them back on top, which led to a lengthy sequence of exchanged baskets leading into the second half.

With Bridgewater back up seven early in the second half, Randolph once again rallied, scoring six straight thanks to field goals from Hoover, Calloway and sophomore Jacqueline Hockman.

Once again, the teams exchanged scoring plays, with Bullins hitting a three and sophomore Brie Holdren converting a three-point play, each tying the game midway through the half.

While Randolph tied it again later on another Bullins made basket, the team could never take the lead over again, as Bridgewater had answers to every rally.

A 10-2 surge by the hosts late in the second half gave the Eagles the edge they needed to hold on to a hard-fought win.

Randolph had the edge in turnovers and rebounding, but was ultimately done in by foul trouble, as the Eagles attempted 30 shots from the line in the contest.

Hockman and Bullins were Randolph's two double-figure scorers, with 11 and 10, respectively.

Randolph is next in action on Tuesday, hosting Washington and Lee.
