Box Score SALEM, Va. -- Randolph and Roanoke finished with identical hitting percentages today, but the Maroons got the better of a 3-1 decision.
Randolph held a 15-13 lead in the first frame, but six straight points went to Roanoke to swing momentum to the home squad, as the Maroons won 25-19.
Set two was all Randolph, as the WildCats score six straight on the service of senior libero Lexi Harrington to turn a 7-6 lead into a a 13-6 edge.
A kill by sophomore Alex Mariona wrapped up the frame, leveling Randolph 1-1 after a 25-18 win.
Hitting went the way of Roanoke in the third frame, as the hosts hit .286 to the visitor's .056, which pushed Roanoke to a 25-16 win.
With their backs against the wall, the WildCats battled hard in the fourth frame.
The teams alternated the first 10 points, resulting in a 5-5 tie at that point.
Three more ties in the next 12 points left the teams at 11-11 before four straight Maroon points gave them the edge.
Randolph rallied to tie it again at 17 apiece, and another exchange tied the set for the 12th and penultimate time in the set, 21-21.
After two more points on the service of Harrington, Roanoke closed with four straight to earn the victory.
Senior Jordan Templin finished with a match-high 15 kills, with Mariona second with 11. Their opponents were balanced, with the top three Maroon hitters between nine and 10 points.
Templin had match-high honors in digs, as well, with 22 and Harrington added 19.
Senior setter Kerry McMichael once again had a stellar day, finishing with 42 assists.
Only 20 times in program history had a setter had 40 or more sets in a single match, and McMichael has now done it in four straight matches, making her the first in program history to accomplish the feat.
The senior added 13 digs and four blocks to her stellar day.
She has averaged 44.75 assists and 10 digs over her last four matches.
Randolph is back in action with its first ODAC home game on Tuesday against East. Mennonite.
