Box Score 2 SALEM, Va. -- Randolph finished 4-0 this weekend at Roanoke's Maroon Classic, taking two more wins today in action against Mary Baldwin and Methodist.
After sweeping Friday's matches, Randolph came out strong again in action on Saturday to earn the first five-match winning streak since 1997.
Randolph was one of two squads to go 4-0 on the weekend, taking the silver medal behind Southern Virginia on a tiebreaker.
The WildCats cruised against Mary Baldwin in sets one and three, winning 25-9 and 25-10, respectively, in the three set victory.
A tough battle in set two went Randolph's way, as well, with the WildCats winning, 25-23.
As a team, Randolph hit .293, with 10 kills going to senior Jordan Templin. Senior Katherine Lesnak had 11 digs and five service aces to lead the team in those categories.
In the day's final match, Randolph squared off against Methodist for the second time this season. In the year's opener, the Monarchs topped the WildCats in five grueling sets.
Today's match was as hotly contested.
The Monarchs took the first set, 25-23 to take an early edge. The next two frames were equally competitive, with Randolph triumphant 25-23 in each, as well.
The WildCats put Methodist away to gain a measure of revenge, 25-18, in the fourth set.
Sophomore Alex Mariona had a tremendous match, earning 16 kills.
In her last five matches, the right side player has 59 kills and hasn't had more than four errors in any match. For her efforts, Mariona was named to the all-tournament team.
Senior Kerry McMichael had 43 assists and aided her defense with 11 digs, as well. She joined Mariona on the all-tournament team.
"I am so incredibly proud of our effort this weekend," interim head coach Kara Matthews said. "We played in a lot of difficult sets and it was great to see us pull through. This is a great step for us heading into conference play."
