Box Score 2 DANVILLE, Va. -- Volleyball concludes its opening weekend with a 3-1 record after a sweep on day two of the Averett Tournament.
In the morning session, Randolph squared off with a familiar foe, Hollins.
While the WildCats and Hollins are both members of the ODAC, the match counts as a non-conference tilt for official purposes.
The teams will compete in league play on Sept. 26 in Roanoke, Va.
Randolph dispatched of their foes, 3-1.
In the day's second match, Randolph overcame a 25-17 first set loss to win the next two, 25-18 and 25-21, to take an edge.
After Averett leveled the match at 2-2, the teams went to a fifth set.
The teams were tied as late as 10-10 when Randolph won five of the last six points to earn the win.
Marissa McClinton started the rally with a kill, then the junior joined senior Jordan Templin on a block to go up 12-10.
After an Averett kill, a kill from sophomore Alex Mariona and an ace from McClinton helped end the match.
McClinton was a star defensively, earning 12 blocks, a program record in that category.
Templin once again led the team in kills and digs in the match.
For her efforts, Templin was named to the All-Tournament team.
Early in the day, senior Lexi Harrington moved into second place in program history in career digs.
Randolph will be away next weekend at Catholic's tournament in Washington, D.C.
