DANVILLE, Va. -- In two matches at Averett's opening weekend tournament, Randolph fell to Methodist, 3-2, before defeating Greensboro, 3-0.

The WildCats (1-1) got off to a hot start in the first match under interim head coach Kara Matthews, dominating the first two sets against Methodist.

For the third time in a row against the Monarchs, however, the match went the distance, as Methodist won the next two sets to force a fifth.

Riding the change in momentum, Methodist closed out the decisive 15-point frame to earn the opening match victory.

"We played very well the first two sets," Matthews said between matches. "We will build on that going forward."

Build they did, as the WildCats dispatched of Greensboro (1-1) in straight sets in the afternoon session.

The WildCats hit extremely well, with just 10 errors to go with 38 kills for a .308 team attack percentage.

Randolph has had single-digit attack errors just three times in the last 96 matches, dating back to 2011.

A group of four seniors led the way for the WildCats, as Jordan Templin and Katherine Lesnak each had double-doubles.

Templin had match-highs with 16 kills and 13 digs, while Lesnak had 10 of each. Templin was also tops in blocks, with four.

Lexi Harrington was the co-leader with Templin at 13 digs and Kerry McMichael earned 20 assists from the setter spot to lead the team.

Templin and Harrington are both within striking distance of the program's records in kills and digs, respectively, this year.

The WildCats will compete in day two of the tournament on Sunday, with Hollins and Averett on tap for non-conference matchups.
