Southern Virginia Gets Revenge in Three-Set Volleyball Win

Box Score

LYNCHBURG, Va. -- Randolph and Southern Virginia will settle for a season split as the Knights swept tonight's match.

These teams met just 16 days ago, with Randolph leaving Buena Vista, Va., with a 3-2 victory in a thriller.

In that contest, Randolph hit over .300 in four of the five sets, improving on its conference-leading hitting percentage.

Today's offensive effort didn't match the one from Sept. 16, as the WildCats were held below .100 in each of the first two sets.

After SVU got out to a 15-5 edge early, Randolph earned nine of the next 10 points, mostly on the service of senior Kerry McMichael.

The Knights took the next five points, however, to take a comfortable edge to close out the set.

Quickly, the WildCats fell behind in set two, 11-2, as the Knights cruised in the frame, 25-10.

The third set was hotly contested, leading to a 16-16 tie before Randolph scored four straight.

Out of a timeout, the Knights rebounded, scoring four straight themselves to tie it.

After an exchange of points left the teams level at 22-22, SVU scored three straight to end it.

Senior Jordan Templin led all hitters with 17 kills.

Randolph has the weekend off, but returns to the court for a home match Tuesday against Randolph-Macon at 7 p.m.
