Box Score LYNCHBURG, Va. -- Lynchburg fended off four set points in the second frame, turning a possible level match into a straight sets victory.
Randolph (7-5, 1-4 ODAC) was just one point away from winning its first set off of perennial powerhouse Lynchburg (5-8, 2-3 ODAC) since 2010, but the Hornets battled back in front of their home crowd.
The first set was all Lynchburg, but the WildCats found their groove midway through the second.
The Hornets took the first five points of the frame and built a 15-9 edge before the visitors chipped away, finally taking the lead as part of a four-point run that turned a 18-16 deficit into a two point lead.
Later, Skyler Wood (Concord, Va./Rustburg) and Marissa McClinton (Bealeton, Va./Liberty-Bealeton) blocked an attack attempt to put the WildCats at set point, 24-21.
A kill, ace and block leveled the stanza at 24, but Randolph responded when McClinton took a pass from junior Kerry McMichael (Westminster, S.C./West Oak) to put the 'Cats back within one point of winning the set.
At 25-24, however, a pair kills sandwiching an ace swung the momentum back in the host team's favor and put Lynchburg up by two sets.
The Hornets took the final set 25-18 after a back-and-forth start to the frame, closing out the match.
Junior Jordan Templin (Ferrum, Va./Franklin Co.) finished with a match-high 11 kills for Randolph.
The WildCats next play a non-conference match at home as part of Family Weekend on Friday at 7 p.m., against Bluefield St.
