Sweep Moves Randolph to 5-1 on the Season

LYNCHBURG, Va. -- Volleyball took home a 3-0 sweep over Ferrum today, moving to 5-1 on the young season entering conference play.

In the home opener tonight, Randolph (5-1) improved as the match went on, winning each set with an increasing margin, 25-19, 25-12, 25-11.

The first set was a battle, as Ferrum (0-3) and the WildCats were tied 14 times when the set got to 19 apiece.

Under the service of junior Kerry McMichael (Westminster, S.C./West Oak) the WildCats strung together six straight points to wrap up the frame 25-19. Jordan Templin (Ferrum, Va./Franklin Co.) slammed home a free ball to close out the set.

Randolph never trailed in the second set, cruising out to a 15-4 lead after winning the first three points.

The third stanza was more of the same, with the team rushing out to a 3-0 cushion and never being leveled. McMichael's service once again led to a strong run, as Randolph won seven straight points as it expanded its lead from 13-8 to 20-8,

Statistical leaders for Randolph included sophomore Marissa McClinton (Bealeton, Va./Liberty-Bealeton) with seven kills, followed by junior Templin.

McMichael once again led the team in assists, out-helping the entire Ferrum team by a 20-19 margin.

Lexi Harrington (Clemmons, N.C./West Forsyth) was the match's top performer in digs, as the junior totaled 11.

As a whole, the team blocked nine attacks, led by five assisted blocks from first-year Noelle Wojciechowski (Greensboro, N.C./Page).
