Box Score GREENSBORO, NC – The hosting Quakers of Guilford College jumped out to a quick 12-0 lead and never looked back as the Randolph College women's basketball team dropped its regular season finale to Guilford 59-44 in Old Dominion Athletic Conference (ODAC) play from Ragan-Brown Field House Saturday afternoon.
The WildCats (5-20/3-13 ODAC) could not find the basket in the early going, not scoring until the 12:05 mark of the first half on a three from junior Emilee Dunton (Forest, VA/Brookville). By that time, the host Quakers had already staked themselves a 12-0 lead, with six points coming from Shelly Barker.
GC built the lead up to 17 at the half, as the WildCats went into the locker room with a 35-18 deficit. The WildCats outscored their hosts in the second half, but couldn't make up enough ground to pull the upset on the Quakers, who finished second in the Old Dominion Athletic Conference standings going into this week's ODAC Tournament.
With the loss, Randolph will make the short trip to take on No. 5 seed Lynchburg College Monday evening at 7 p.m. for the ODAC Tournament First Round. The WildCats were paced by the game-high 21 points from first-year guard Abigail Bullins (Asheboro, NC/Asheboro). Bullins made seven-of-16 from the floor, including knocking down five triples.
Dunton finished with eight points, three boards and two helpers, while Megan Russell (Pinnacle, NC/West Stokes) had seven points and a team-leading nine rebounds off the bench. Sophomore Bonnie Bishop (Fairfax, VA/Trinity Christian) added five points for Randolph, which shot 25.0 percent (15-60) form the floor on the day.
Guilford got a team-high 13 points from Gabby Oglesby, while Brittany Atwater adder 10 points and seven rebounds. Jaclyn Nucci grabbed a team-best nine rebounds, and Barker finished with eight points and five caroms. GC shot 36.8 percent (21-57) from the floor, and 14-of-18 (77.8 percent) from the line.
Official brackets for the 2013 ODAC Tournament will be released by the conference office this evening. ODAC Tournament First Round games all charge an admission cost of $5 at the door.
