Box Score FERRUM, Va. -- A close game throughout, Randolph came out on top today in non-conference action.
While the final score, 67-59, may look like the WildCats (4-1) were in control, this game was nip-and-tuck throughout.
Early in the game, first-year Evan Horn (Westminster, Md./Winters Mill) hit on consecutive threes to take the WildCats from down three to up three, just before the half.
Ferrum (3-4) scored the next seven to get the lead and grew its largest edge to eight at 42-34, but Randolph chipped away throughout the second half until a 54-54 tie was broken on a Zach Desgain (Richmond, Va./J.R. Tucker) three with just over three minutes left.
After a pair of free throws, sophomore Corey Brown (Williamsburg, Va./Walsingham) nailed another triple to put Randolph back up by four.
As a team, Randolph made 12 three pointers.
After the teams exchanged points, Randolph held a three point edge with under a minute to go.
After a defensive stop with 38.2 seconds left, Ferrum chose to foul, putting sophomore Jason Eddie (Charlotte, N.C./Davidson Day School) at the line to make it a two possession game, which he did.
After another stop, the last few seconds were full of fouls, but Randolph hit its free throws, putting away the win.
Desgain finished with 21 points, one shy of Ferrum's Jamal Pullen for the game high. Senior Mike Ehilegbu (Raleigh, N.C./Ravenscroft) had 15.
Ehilegbu and Eddie each had seven rebounds for the team lead.
