Roanoke Comes to Town for Volleyball's Home Finale, Senior Night

Box Score

LYNCHBURG, Va. -- Senior Sydney Henson (Winston-Salem, N.C./Ronald Reagan) will be honored before tonight's 7 p.m., match against Roanoke.

About the WildCats:

A win tonight would clinch Randolph's first winning season since 1997. The WildCats, at 11-10, will wrap up their season tomorrow at Bluefield St.

Randolph took a three-set win from Bluefield St., earlier this season at the RAD Center.

Junior Jordan Templin (Ferrum, Va./Franklin Co.) leads the ODAC in kills per set with 3.60. She holds a 0.12 lead over the 2011 ODAC Player of the Year, M.A. Boles.

About the Maroons:

Roanoke is one of four teams sitting on four losses in conference play right now, occupying the third through sixth spots in the standings.

These four teams, Roanoke, Virginia Wesleyan, Lynchburg and Emory & Henry, will end up playing each other in the first round, but the matchups and the location of the matches will be determined by this weekend's games.

Should Roanoke win tonight, they keep themselves alive for consideration for a home match on Wednesday. Should they falter, they will head on the road for the quarterfinals.

Mackenzie Tyree is in the top five in the conference in digs and aces while teammate Samantha Klostermann occupies similar spots in kills and hitting percentage.

About the matchup:

The last time these two played in Lynchburg, Randolph ended a 15-year losing streak against the Maroons in the sport of volleyball.

Roanoke took two matches from the WildCats last year, one in conference play and one in regular season tournament competition.

WildCat to watch:

Henson will be the one to watch tonight as the lone senior on this young squad.

In 105 matches, Henson has racked up 254 kills, 170 digs, 58 aces and 19 assists.

She has been an active member of the campus community, serving as a Gold Key guide, resident assistant and peer mentor, among numerous other extracurriculars. She was an ODAC All-Academic Team recipient as well.

Her parents, Chris and Kim, are the chairs of the Randolph Parents Committee.
