WildCats Win Intense Match to Kick Off Homecoming

Box Score

LYNCHBURG, Va. -- Randolph took a four-set win in volleyball tonight, avenging a previous loss.

After falling to Southern Virginia (12-9) in Buena Vista earlier this year in three close sets, Randolph (11-9) got home court advantage and made good use of it.

First-year Skyler Wood (Concord, Va./Rustburg) and sophomore Marissa McClinton (Bealeton, Va./Liberty-Bealeton) teamed up on a block to end the hotly contested first set, putting the WildCats up 1-0.

In an extremely back-and-forth second set, Randolph needed to fend off three straight set points on the service of junior setter Kerry McMichael (Westminster, S.C./West Oak).\

After a block and a pair of kills by junior Jordan Templin (Ferrum, Va./Franklin Co.), Randolph actually took the lead, but SVU stopped a set point in response.

After an SVU point, Templin leveled again, then set up junior Katherine Lesnak (Blountville, Tenn./Sullivan Central) for the set winner.

SVU would not go quietly, however, winning the third set.

In the fourth, Randolph trailed as late as 22-21, but a kill by McClinton and an attack error put Randolph up.

After an equalizer, McClinton and Templin each tallied kills on lengthy points from McMichael to earn the win, elating the large Homecoming crowd.

Randolph hit .324 in the final set.

Templin led all hitters with 21 kills. McMichael had 43 digs. Junior Lexi Harrington (Clemmons, N.C./West Forsyth) led the WildCats with 20 digs.

The team hopes to carry momentum into the crucial battle with ODAC foe Shenandoah tomorrow.
