Box Score ASHLAND, VA – Randolph College sophomore guard Chelsea Tyler (Richmond, VA/Henrico) scored a career-high 20 points Tuesday, but hot shooting by Randolph-Macon College lifted the hosting Yellow Jackets past Randolph 90-68 in Old Dominion Athletic Conference (ODAC) action.
Tyler eclipsed her previous career best of 15 points, scored last January 21 at Guilford College. Tyler on the contest was six-of-15 from the floor, making seven of her 11 free throws. She also contributed four assists, four rebounds, two blocks and two steals.
Unfortunately for the WildCats, the Yellow Jackets (4-13/4-5 ODAC) fired at a 54.6 percent clip for the evening, including knocking down nine-of-17 (52.9 percent) from downtown. Randolph led only once during the game at 7-6 after a Tyler layup with 16:46 to go. R-MC put together an 11-2 run over the next three minutes, taking a 17-9 edge.
The Yellow Jackets would continue to add on to their advantage, as they shot 62.5 percent from the floor in the first stanza in taking a 53-30 lead into the break. The WildCats came out strong in the second half and outscored R-MC 38-37 in the period but could not pull closer in falling on the road.
Sophomore forward Allie Druffel (Centerville, VA/Westfield) had eight points, making all four of her field goals to go with five rebounds, while Abigail Bullins (Asheboro, NC/Asheboro) posted eight points. Sophomore center Megan Russell (Pinnacle, NC/West Stokes) came off the bench to score eight points a well for the WildCats, who shot 40.6 percent (26-64) from the field on the evening.
Sophomore Jensen Hoover (Woodstock, VA/Central) added her second double-digit rebounding night of the season, pulling in 10 boards. Junior guard Emilee Dunton (Forest, VA/Brookville) had seven points and three assists as well for the WildCats.
Four Yellow Jackets posted double digits, led by the 16 points from sophomore Sarah Parsons. Kellie Cortina and Hannah Livermon each had 15 points apiece, and Caroline Young posted a double-double of 14 points and 10 rebounds. Khajae Hester registered an ODAC seasonal single game high of 13 assists as well for the Jackets, who won the rebounding battle 42-36.
Randolph will return to the Randolph Athletics and Dance (RAD) Center Thursday evening with a non-conference contest, entertaining Southern Virginia University with a 7 p.m. tip off scheduled.
