Randolph Volleyball Wins Home Opener Against Mary Baldwin 3-0

                LYNCHBURG, VA – The Randolph College volleyball team posted 17 service aces in route to a three-set victory over Mary Baldwin College in non-conference play from the Randolph Athletics and Dance (RAD) Center. Randolph won with scores of 25-7, 25-14 and 25-17.

                Tueday night's win for the WildCats (2-3) marked the third consecutive season they've started the year with a win in the home opener. Randolph had no problems in the first set, jumping out to an early 9-2 run behind four aces. The 'Cats would continue to run away with the first set, taking the game 25-7. Senior Sam Sublett (Bedford, VA/Staunton River) was three-for-three on attacks in the game, while Celine Rhodes (Barhamsville, VA/Jamestown) had two kills and two aces.

                In game two, Randolph posted 12 kills in the set, led by the three from sophomore Jordan Templin (Ferrum, VA/Franklin Co.). Rhodes and Lexi Harrington (Clemmons, NC/West Forsyth) each had four digs in the period to pace Randolph in that department. In the deciding third set, MBC (0-4) made the game interesting, as Randolph led by only one at 12-11 but an 8-3 run by the WildCats put the game out of reach.

                Templin added two kills in the third set, and Harrington posted two of her match-high five aces in the game. Templin chalked up a team-best five finishes for Randolph, as eight players had at least two kills. First-year Andrea Mewhinney (Sanford, NC/Overhills) booked a game-high 12 assists for Randolph, and Kerry McMichael (Westminster, SC/West Oak) had four assists in only one game of action. Rhodes finished with three kills, and sophomore Katherine Lesnak (Blountsville, TN/Sullivan Central) had three kills and an ace.

                Sophomore Tori Lange (Riverside, CA/Patriot) finished two of her four chances, and also had the game's lone solo block. Kharla Bethea had a game-high six kills for the Fighting Squirrels, and Tiffany Flesher added four kills. Paige Babb led MBC with eight helpers on the night.

                Randolph is back in action this weekend at the Catholic University of America (CUA) Tournament in Washington, DC. The Tournament starts Friday afternoon and ends Saturday, with Randolph playing a pair of games each day.
