Box Score LYNCHBURG, VA — Lynchburg College first-year Shannon Allan scored a game-high 21 points as the Hornets knocked off the Randolph College women's basketball team 57-37 Friday evening in action from Turner Gymnasium.
The Hornets (6-13/5-9 ODAC) led for the entirety of the contest, but Randolph refused to go away in the first half. LC opened up an early 12-2 advantage, but the WildCats (3-18/0-15 ODAC) rallied to pull to within four after a jumper from first-year Chelsea Tyler (Richmond, VA/Henrico) .
Lynchburg opened the lead back up, going on a 15-2 run to take a 30-13 lead into intermission. Randolph struggled from the floor in each half, shooting an identical 25 percent (6-25) from the floor in each stanza. Randolph inched to within 12 midway through the second half, but could get no closer.
First-years Bri Lowry (Herndon, VA/Herndon) and Bonnie Bishop (Fairfax, VA/Trinity Christian) each tallied a team-best nine points for the WildCats. First-year Jensen Hoover (Woodstock, VA/Central) hit all three of her made buckets in the first half for six points, while Tyler gathered in a team-best six rebounds.
Allan was seven-of-10 from the first, knocking down two of her three attempts from behind the arc. Roslyn Alexander and Carly Greenlief each scored seven points apiece for Lynchburg, which shot 32.7 percent, but got to the free throw line 29 times, hitting 21 (72.4 percent).
Randolph will now battle Bridgewater College in more conference play Tuesday evening in the Randolph Athletics and Dance (RAD) Center at 7 p.m.
