Lynchburg College Knocks Off Randolph Volleyball In Straight Sets

                LYNCHBURG, VA – The Randolph College volleyball team battled at times but Lynchburg College proved to be too much as the WildCats were felled by the Hornets in three games Wednesday evening from the Randolph Athletics and Dance (RAD) Center.

                The WildCats (2-15/0-5 ODAC) hung with the Hornets for much of game one, but a 7-1 run through the middle of the set helped LC to a 25-18 win. Randolph was paced offensively in the set by Sam Sublett (Bedford, VA/Staunton River), who chalked up two kills on four attempts. The second set was knotted at nine before a seven-point run by the visitors spurred LC (13-4/5-2 ODAC) to a 25-17 victory. Lynchburg would cruise through the third set, earning the match with the deciding set 25-12 win.

                 Randolph had a team-high eight kills from sophomore Jordan Templin (Ferrum, VA/Franklin Co.), as she hit at a .238 clip for the night. Templin added nine digs to tie fellow sophomore Lexi Harrington (Clemmons, NC/West Forsyth) for the most on the squad. First-year Andrea Mewhinney (Sanford, NC/Overhills) handled the majority of the setting with Kerry McMichael (Westminster, SC/West Oak) sidelined, distributing 13 assists.

                Sublett finished the match with three kills, and Celine Rhodes (Barhamsville, VA/Jamestown) had three kills, five assists, three aces, five digs and a solo block. Randolph hit .057 for the match, and totaled only three blocks.

                LC was paced by Brittany Crawford and her game-bests of 11 kills and 12 digs. Aricquel Payne had eight kills and seven digs for the Hornets, and Sierra Strathy registered six kills, two aces and three total blocks. The Hornets attacked at a .250 hitting percentage, posting seven service aces along the way.

                Randolph's next challenge comes this weekend, when it travels to Salem, VA for a two-day, four-match stop at the Roanoke College Tournament. The WildCats will start play Friday afternoon at 3 p.m. against Ferrum College in the C. Homer Bast Center on the campus of Roanoke College.
