Strong Hitting Lifts Randolph Volleyball Past Eastern Mennonite In Three Sets

                LYNCHBURG, VA – The Randolph College volleyball hit nearly .400 on the match Saturday and committed just three errors in breezing past Eastern Mennonite University in three sets in the final home match of the 2012 season for Randolph in league action.

                The WildCats (7-20/2-8) earned an easy 25-11 victory in game one, posting scores of 25-20 in game two and 25-21 in the final set. In the opening game, Randolph was led by sophomore Jordan Templin (Ferrum, VA/Franklin Co.), who posted eight kills in the set on 13 swings. Fellow sophomore Grayce Darden (Martinsville, VA/Martinsville) was successful on all four of her attempts in the game.

                In game two, the WildCats pulled away late in the set to earn the victory. Senior Sam Sublett (Bedford, VA/Staunton River), playing in her final home match for the WildCats, chalked up three of her nine kills in game two. In the final set, The Wildcats got six more kills from Templin in coming from behind to pick up the straight set victory.

                Templin led all attacked with 16 kills, as she moved into a tie for fourth place on the single-season kills record at Randolph with 276 this year. Darden finished with seven kills on 13 attempts, while sophomore Kerry McMichael (Westminster, SC/West Oak) dished out a team-best 23 assists. Sophomore Lexi Harrington (Clemmons, NC/West Forsyth) pulled even with Emily Popp at 380 for sixth-place on the single-season dig list with nine digs Saturday.

                Randolph final hitting percentage of .398 (38-3-88) was the best hitting percentage in a game ever at the College, eclipsing the record of .397 set earlier this season against Methodist University. The 38 kills were the sixth-most in a three-set match ever for the WildCats, and Templin's 16 kills was the third-most in a three-setter ever at the College.

                EMU (4-17/0-11 ODAC) was led by the 14 kills from Amber Loftin. Karlin Martin, Katie Miller and Mattie Lehman each chalked up 13 digs for the visitors, while Lehman had a game-high 26 assists for the Royals. EMU hit .181 on the afternoon, posting a line of 36 kill, 17 errors and 105 attempts.

                Randolph will finish Old Dominion Athletic Conference play this Thursday afternoon with a trip to Ashland, VA to take on regionally-ranked and conference leading Randolph-Macon College at 6:30 p.m.
