Box Score 2 VIRGINIA BEACH, VA -- The Randolph College volleyball team traveled to Virginia Beach Saturday afternoon, but lost a pair of matches to Virginia Wesleyan College (25-8, 25-16, 25-18) and St. Mary's College of Maryland (25-17, 25-21, 15-25, 25-16).
In the opening match of the afternoon, the WildCats couldn't get much going against the host Marlins in falling in straight sets. VWC's (16-6/6-2) Taylor Allen led all scorers with 12 kills on 18 attempts, while Kala Guy added eight kills. The WildCats (5-19) were paced by the six kills each from Grayce Darden (Martinsville, VA/Martinsville) and Jordan Templin (Ferrum, VA/Franklin Co.). The WildCats posted six blocks on the match, three each coming from Celine Rhodes (Barhamsville, VA/Jamestown) and Sam Sublett (Bedford, VA/Staunton River).
Against the Seahawks of St. Mary's, Randolph battled back in game three to cut its deficit in half. The WildCats were not able to knot the match at two and force a game three, falling in four. Templin again led the WildCat attack, chalking up 11 kills and 11 digs. Rhodes added seven kills and seven helpers, while first-year Marissa McClinton (Bealeton, VA/Liberty-Bealeton) registered five kills and three blocks.
Andrea Mewhinney (Sanford, NC/Overhills) posted 10 assists and was successful on both of her attacks, and first-year Elisabeth Price (Hendersonville, NC/Hendersonville) earned her first three kills of the year on five swings. Kerry McMichael (Westminster, SC/West Oak) had 17 assists to lead all passers for the 'Cats.
Randolph will entertain Hollins University Wednesday evening at 7 p.m. in the Randolph Athletics and Dance (RAD) Center.
