Randolph Volleyball Felled By Emory & Henry Thursday Evening

                LYNCHBURG, VA – The Randolph College volleyball team entertained the Wasps of Emory & Henry College Thursday evening in Old Dominion Athletic Conference (ODAC) play, and the visiting Wasps earned a three-set win over the WildCats in action from the Randolph Athletics and Dance (RAD) Center. E-HC won with scores of 16, 19 and 19.

                Randolph (5-17/0-6 ODAC) was in the first match with the Wasps, trailing by only one at 12-11. Emory & Henry (15-6/5-2 ODAC) went on a 5-0 run to pull away and notch the opening game, 25-16. Nicole Tesh supplied four kills for Emory & Henry in the set, and Jordan Templin (Ferrum, VA/Franklin Co.) added four as well for the 'Cats.

                In game two, the Wasps got four kills apiece from Kim Caudill, Jamie Cockerham and Hannah Stewart to earn a 25-19 win. Randolph struggled to hit in the game, notching just a .057 hitting percentage over the set. Lexi Harrington (Clemmons, NC/West Forsyth) had seven digs in the set to pace the WildCats.

                In the deciding game, Emory & Henry led 20-18 and put three straight points together to give the Wasps some breathing room in posting a 25-19 win in game three. Tesh posted seven kills in the set for E&H, and Celine Rhodes (Barhamsville, VA/Jamestown) and Sam Sublett (Bedford, VA/Staunton River) each had three finishes in the game for Randolph.

                On the match, Sublett, Templin and Rhodes all finished with seven kills to pace the WildCats. First-year Marissa McClinton (Bealeton, VA/Liberty-Bealeton) posted three kills on four swings for Randolph and Harrington chalked up a team-best 13 digs. Sophomore Kerry McMichael (Westminster, SC/West Oak) had 13 assists and fellow setter Andrea Mewhinney (Sanford, NC/Overhills) notched 12 helpers.

                Tesh led Emory & Henry with a game-leading 13 kills, and Cockerham continued her quest to break the Emory & Henry career kills record with 10 on the evening. Maleah Neely chalked up a double-double of 31 assists and 13 digs.

                Randolph will head to Virginia Wesleyan College Saturday for a pair of matches. The WildCats will take on Virginia Wesleyan at 1:30 p.m. and St. Mary's College (MD) at 3:30 p.m.
