WildCat Volleyball Drops Five Set Heartbreaker at Bridgewater College Saturday

BRIDGEWATER, VA – The Randolph College volleyball team led two games to one Saturday afternoon at Bridgewater College but the Eagles rallied to take the last two sets in winning an Old Dominion Athletic Conference (ODAC) match 3-2 from Nininger Hall.

The Eagles (7-3/1-1 ODAC) won the first game 25-20, but Randolph responded by taking the next two games by scores of 25-11 and 26-24, respectively. Bridgewater captured the fourth set 25-13, and after the fifth set was tied at five, BC rattled off seven straight points to take control and capture the 15-7 win in the fifth set.

Shana Nelson (Columbia, MD/Wilde Lake) had a team-best 12 kills for Randolph (6-4/1-2 ODAC), while Jordan Templin (Ferrum, VA/Franklin Co.) posted 11 kills and career-high 26 digs. Junior Megan Wheatley (Sperryville, VA/Rappahannock Co.) and Grayce Darden (Martinsville, VA/Martinsville) each had six kills for Randolph.

Wheatley had 12 digs as well for the WildCats, while sophomore Caitlin Glennen (Knoxville, VA/Karns) posted 10 digs on the afternoon. First-year Kerry McMichael (Westminster, SC/West Oak) chalked up 34 assists over the five-set contest, also registering six digs. Defensively, Nelson had two solo and four assisted blocks while Darden and junior Sam Sublett (Bedford, VA/Staunton River) each had three assisted blocks.

Katie Long and Mara Hogan each had 12 kills to lead the Eagles, as Cadie Castle helped out with 10 kills. Katie Bater had nine kills and six blocks, and Lindsay Kallam registered a team-best 23 assists. Casey O'Leary had 16 digs and seven service aces for BC, which took advantage of 11 total aces on the match.

Randolph will entertain Randolph-Macon College Tuesday evening at 7 p.m. in the Randolph Athletics and Dance (RAD) Center in more ODAC volleyball action.
