Randolph Women's Hoops Drops League Contest at Bridgewater 63-49

BRIDGEWATER, VA – The Randolph College women's basketball team trailed late in the first half by only two but couldn't get over the hump as the WildCats dropped an Old Dominion Athletic Conference (ODAC) tussle with Bridgewater College 63-49 in action from Nininger Hall Saturday.

Randolph (2-4/0-3 ODAC) fell behind early but battled back to tie the game at 10 with 13:01 to go in the first half on a three-pointer from Brianna Lowry (Herndon, VA/Herndon) . BC (3-3/2-2 ODAC) went on a 10-2 run but again the WildCats rallied to trim the lead to two at 24-22 thanks to a jumper from first-year Megan Russell (Pinnacle, NC/West Stokes) .

The Eagles slowly built their lead back up to nine, where it stood at halftime with a score of 34-25. After the break, Randolph's defense did the job, but a shooting percentage of only 25 percent in the second half doomed the WildCats. Also, again rebounding was an issue as Bridgewater won the battle on the boards 56-38.

Lowry paced the WildCats in the scoring department, chalking up 13 points on five-of-13 shooting. Lowry added four assists, while Bonnie Bishop (Fairfax, VA/Trinity Christian) had a career-high 10 points. Russell finished with nine points on the afternoon, and first-year Chelsea Tyler (Richmond, VA/Henrico) and Shondria Hamlett (Bedford, VA/Rustburg) each had five points.

All but one Eagle that played scored, highlighted by an 11 point, 20 rebound performance from Shannan Thorne. Kelsey Taylor had 15 points to lead all scorers, as the Eagles shot only 37 percent from the field on the contest.

Randolph will return to action Tuesday evening at 7 p.m. in Ashland, VA with a road league contest against the Yellow Jackets of Randolph-Macon College.
